In theory they should, in reality, maybe. Would the dealerships flash an older version into the PCM? Most likely not, and it's possible the DRB3 tool won't even allow it. Just like I wrote, one can re-flash the Jeep/ Dodge JTEC OBD-II era PCMs as many times as one likes, as long as you have the equiplent to do it, and a PCM "software version" (or a tune, flash, whatever you wanna call it) that will overwrite current one. * non original = a custom-tune PCM flash version not written by the factory/ it's subcontractor. * Factory original = any of the multiple PCM flash reversions originally written by the factory/ it's subcontractor could be the one it came with from the production line, the latest revision, or any of those in between. I could be wrong on all counts as this all comes from hours of late night reading and fuzzy memory. While Skim's modus operandi is unusual he does have a good A drb will update a flash but I don't think it will overwrite one. While I have no way of knowing the quality of or whether they have been death flashed I found these two on ebay. I've looked high and low for a MOPAR ECU but no luck there either. So can this be flashed back to premium cal and if so, what tool is necessary to do the job? They didn't charge me anything as I think they were happy to work on something a little unique! The tech said there were a handful of models listed that could not be toggled back, including the 5.9 Jeep.įrom what I've read, this feature should be able to be toggled back and forth with the DRB, but they said another scan tool may be necessary to accomplish this, and they didn't have it anymore. Took it to the local dealership today, and they graciously checked it out and advised me they could get into the premium/regular toggle menu, but they could not switch it back to the premium cal. It runs consistent 8.0 seconds 0-60, well off the numbers it should pull, but overall runs very good and smooth, no issues whatsoever. So immediately I figured it had the death flash, and after I got home, I refilled with some good 93 octane and did some 0-60mph runs. Last week I got stuck having to put regular gas (87 octane) in it while out of town, and was worried about detonation, but got none, and it ran just fine, same as with the 93 octane I've been running in it. So I have this 68,000 mile 5.9L running and driving like new after a couple of months of minor repairs to the usual trouble spots!
